Does Differin Really Provide You With
The Ultimate Prescription Acne Fighter?

About Differin

Differin is a prescription acne gel or cream based on the ingredient known as adapalene. It was recently introduced and claims to stop acne before it starts giving your child or those with adult acne a “clear advantage.” They offer you a free trial with coupons that you can take to your local pharmacy or doctor, and it is produced and sold by Calderma Laboratories in the United States. However, it can also be found in Europe and Pakistan.

How Does Differin Work?

Differin tells you that you can stop acne in the early days of treatment. It clears the acne you have and works its way deep into the pores to help them stay unclogged in the first place. It uses topical retinoids or forms of vitamin A, which generally increase cell turnover, and they are best used with a good exfoliator. However, Differin also comes with side effects such as redness, itching, dryness, burning, or peeling which may make skin sensitive to exfoliators among other things, and it takes 8-12 weeks to see any results, that is if you see results at all. Chances are you’ve tried other forms of retinoid treatment, and it often doesn’t work, initially or always making acne worse.

Adapalene - Used in 0.3 or 0.1% concentrations, adapalene can come in gel or cream form and has been proven for the treatment of acne vulgaris. However, like other forms of vitamin A, it can be irritating to the skin and is not appropriate for those who are pregnant, nursing, or have sensitive skin, and it does not clear many cases of acne, even in 8-12 weeks.

Carbomer 940 – a commonly used thickener, suspender, or stabilizer, carbomer 940 is used for a wide range of things, including the promotion of emulsions. It is often used as a solvent. It does not actually absorb into the body’s tissues and it is generally recognized as safe and non toxic. However, it does not fight acne.

Edetate Disodium - it is generally excreted in urine after use, and it has been used in emergency treatment of hypercalcemia, control of ventricular arrhythmias, and has been associated with digitalis toxicity. However, it has not been indicated for the treatment of acne.

Propylene Glycol - a small form of antifreeze, propylene glycol has been known to cause upset stomach when ingested internally and skin irritation when used externally. It is often used as a preservative, and most scientists have compared it to drinking a small dose of antifreeze accordingly.

Sodium Hydroxide - a caustic metallic base, it dissolves with solvents such as water. It has a strong chemical base and is used in soaps and detergents for the most part. It often neutralizes chemical reactions, and it can also be used in oil drilling, paper making, biodiesel fuel, methamphetamines, paint strippers, and tissue digestion, but not in the fight against acne or for topical application to the skin.

Product: differin gel

“I started using differin gel on monday night, its thursday night now and all of my previou acne has shrunken into tiny bumps! they are still there, but will most likely be gone in the next 2-3 days if the progress keeps up. for me, there have been NO side effects.. it hasn\\\'t even made my skin dry like all other products. my acne was pretty bad sometimes and i needed something to get rid of it.. and i think this was my thing! i\\\'m also using a garnier pure facewash whitch feels so cool on your face, and a cetaphil cream in the morning. i wash my face every morning and night. @ night, i wash my face, pat it dry then apply a TINY bit of the gel, no burning, redness, dryness, etc. its been great! i HIGHLY reccommend it!”
